Vanessa Bayer and her brother Jonah dig up childhood gems in their ‘How Did We Get Weird’ podcast
How did we get weird?
The Chicago-based improv, sketch and podcast troupe Second City alumni Vanessa Bayer and her brother Jonah want to find out. On Monday, the pair debuted their first podcast, How Did We Get Weird?
Writing and performing for the podcast with their friend Jennifer Flanagan from Pitchfork Media, the 34-year-old and her younger brother talk about their concerns, struggles and deepest fears. Vanessa has also worked on Saturday Night Live.
On the first episode, they discuss their plastic surgery scars.
“We learned a long time ago that it’s best to look presentable and don’t get another surgery until you’re done. And from there you can go through the confusion of saying, ‘Oh no, no, no!’ And then you don’t look any different. And I’ve seen a lot of young girls, when they do get it, they can actually look like they’re 18 years old, because it’s like, ‘Oh my God, there’s nothing here,’” Jonah said.
“I wish that I didn’t have any scars, or my brother didn’t have any scars, but it’s not worth worrying about, is what I would tell myself. I’m a little different from everybody else, but I’m fine,” Vanessa said.
How Did We Get Weird? is on iTunes.
