Zayn Malik was arrested after allegedly kicking his former girlfriend Gigi Hadid and her mother.
The model and reality TV star turned 26 on Monday. She celebrated by going on a dinner date with her parents, Yolanda Hadid and Mohamed Hadid, in Santa Monica, Calif.
They were seen stepping outside for a bite to eat at a restaurant with a member of Hadid’s security team.
Once outside, police said Malik, 24, verbally attacked a Hadid. He “verbally abused” them before allegedly striking Malik on the arm, leading to a police call and an eventual arrest.
“Zayn was subsequently cited for misdemeanor battery and released. He is not under arrest for any further court appearance,” Santa Monica police said in a statement.
After being released, Malik tweeted, “Reidy, .”
TMZ reported that Gigi and Yolanda Hadid called Malik while he was at dinner, according to police.
When Malik walked over to where they were seated, he was told to leave the premises, but he refused, and eventually kicked Yolanda Hadid, while he kicked Gigi, who was on the phone.
“When Zayn was charged with assault, he was told by the arresting officer to keep quiet and observe the rules of the restaurant,” police said. “He had left the restaurant. When he returned, the officer found him outside.”
“Zayn exited the restaurant without incident. His father and sister were also at the restaurant. While at the restaurant, Zayn had been verbally abusive and stated that there would be trouble and to call the police.”
