RB Leipzig have progressed to the Champions League’s qualifying round after beating Olympiakos 2-0 at home in the first leg of their play-off.

American winger Tyler Adams helped score the first with a terrific long-range strike in the 17th minute and was instrumental in the second in the 67th minute.

The 20-year-old raced down the left, cutting inside before curling a left-footed shot past Olympiakos goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

The second leg is on 29 June in Athens.

They had narrowly avoided relegation from the Bundesliga last season, but lost no time to announce the addition of teenager Adams.

As well as starting last season, Adams was on the bench when Leipzig were knocked out of the Uefa Cup by Russian club FC FC Rostov.

Adams, who has six caps for the US, was given a standing ovation when substituted during the match with the Bundesliga runners-up, who could make the final four of the Europa League instead.

Olympiakos: Lopez; Schelotto, Kranjcar, Mathew, Bogdan, Gestede, Toljan, Nacho, Diaz (Espinoza 84), Isco, Balentien (Diaz 74).
